Merrimack College Mental Health First Aid for Fire and EMS teaches participants how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. This 8-hour training teaches methods and techniques to reach out and provide initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to the appropriate care. This course specifically focuses on the unique experiences and needs of firefighters and EMS personnel.

Mental Health First Aid is an international training program proven to be effective. Studies also show that the program reduces the social distance created by negative attitudes and perceptions of individuals with mental illnesses.
