This 90-minute session focuses on planning and implementing inclusive community engagement and includes strategies and resources for creatively and systematically recruiting, promoting, and involving community members. Participants acquire tools for planning the outreach, promotions, recruitment and social media components of community initiatives. Participants learn to identify the purposes and value of participation, to incentivize participation, and to address barriers to participation.

Participants will be able to define ‘youth’ by drawing from three common definitions of the term.

Participants explore Arnstein’s ladder of citizen participation and identify how community engagement efforts reflect different levels of authentic participation.

Participants will reflect on the ways their own youth experiences have shaped their approaches to youth engagement.
