MODULE 1: Developing a problem definition. COMPONENTS: a) Technical investigations and the scientific method. Establishing a hypothesis. Asking the right questions. b) Identifying types of problem. c) Problem definition. d) Internal and external search of relevant prior work in the problem area. ASSIGNMENT: Develop a preliminary problem definition.

MODULE 2: Developing and demonstrating skills in project management and data presentation. COMPONENTS: a) Structured problem-solving. b) Data presentation and reporting. c) Identify obstacles (critical issues, critical path, project boundaries). ASSIGNMENT: Update problem definition and develop preliminary project plan (tasks, timing, resources, assignments).

MODULE 3: Ongoing skills development in executing a technical investigation. COMPONENTS: a) data collection and analysis. b) review of sampling theory and practice. c) project management. d) data presentation. e) project-related capability development. ASSIGNMENT: Preliminary progress report. Written report introducing the study, background, preliminary results and observations, proposed method of analysis, supporting figures/tables/images, discussion, and references.

MODULE 4: Communication and implementation. COMPONENTS: a) presentation skills, report writing skills, and technical communication to a non-technical audience. b) technical coaching sessions focusing on specific skills required for the selected project. c) leading and managing for successful change. ASSIGNMENT: Final written report supported by oral presentation.
