Through practical activities and an on-site visit to Holmesglen Institute, earners have experienced insights into health industry pathways. Earners have participated in activities related to allied health care, nurses roles in patient care, using pathology techniques to analyse human samples, and the significance of simulations within patient care training. Earners have attended an immersion day at Holmesglen Institute, delivered in collaboration with Monash Tech School.

Practical Activities - Earners have participated in small group activities which introduced them to fundamental skills and tasks used in theatre operations, triage, laboratory and pathology analysis, and patient care.

The role of the health care team - Earners have learnt about different aspects of health care roles and the importance of the health care team.

Nurses roles in patient care - Earners have completed and participated in activities surrounding medical procedures used by nurses everyday such as the glitter bug challenge (infection control) and observing patient vital signs.

Pathology/Lab Skills - Earners have engaged in pathology and laboratory techniques such as preparing and observing live eukaryotic human cheek cells, wet mount microscopic technique, counting numbers of cells per millimetre of sample, quantitatively determining urine sugar levels by manual method, and learning about bacteria using the Gram’s Staining technique.

Simulations in patient care training - Earners have learnt about the importance of simulations in training health care professionals and investigated processes involved in saving a life through an introduction to CPR.

Careers Guidance - Earners have participated in a careers and pathways session delivered by Holmesglen Institute’s Faculty of Health Science, Youth and Community Studies.
