This Digital Credential shows that this participant undertook 2 days classroom teaching and observation-based training in the use of mobile cranes in arboriculture. The aim of this course is to enable participants to have an introduction to the various roles and tasks to be able to understand and subsequently undertake elements of crane assisted aerial tree work. This course has been developed by Arborcraft and mwmac Ltd, with funding support from Focus on Forestry First Ltd.

Earning Criteria

The current legislation and industry guidance related to crane assisted tree work.

Interpretation of the lift plan and production of ‘RAMS’ for the arboricultural aspects of the operation.

Organisation of the site in accordance with the ‘RAMS’ and lift plan.

Communication with the crane operator / lift supervisor effectively using recognised and agreed signals.

The arboricultural ground-based roles and processing of lowered sections.

Estimation of the weight and centre of gravity of sections.

Safely attaching climbing equipment to the hook block and accessing the crown.

Appropriate selection and attachment of slings / lifting accessories.

Methods of severing tree sections using appropriate cutting techniques.
