Earners of this badge have successfully completed the rigorous, demonstration-based curriculum of the Distinguished Student Leader Program that is anchored in the four tenets of National Student Council: Leadership, Service, Engagement, and Student Voice. Students also come to understand their own leadership strengths and style. The Distinguished Student Leader program is sponsored by National Student Council, a program of the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).

Earning Criteria

Must be a member of the local student council or have a leadership position in another campus organization in a school that has an active affiliation with National Student Council.
Must keep a record of all required activities in a personal portfolio and present the portfolio to the adviser or leadership instructor for evaluation.
Must secure endorsement of adviser or leadership instructor verifying satisfactory completion of all tasks necessary to be considered for recognition.
Must create an adviser-verified student account and submit an online application including a leadership essay, leadership profile, and endorsement from adviser or leadership instructor.
Must receive a satisfactory evaluation and be found eligible to receive Distinguished Student Leader designation from the NASSP Department of Student Leadership .
