Individuals are familiar with FCAW techniques for root and fill passes on pipe. They understand the necessary procedures for preparing the area, materials and equipment. They are able to identify acceptable and unacceptable weld profiles. They are aware of how to select a compatible electrode wire and shielding gas. They are able to safely make acceptable open-root V-groove pipe welds with FCAW equipment on carbon steel pipe in the 1G-ROTATED, 2G, 5G and 6G positions.
