Individuals are familiar with SMAW techniques for welding stainless steels. They understand procedures for preparing the area, materials and equipment. They are able to identify acceptable weld profiles. They can properly utilize filler metal rods and shielding/backing gas. They are able to safely use SMAW equipment to make acceptable open-root V-groove welds on stainless steel plate in the 1G, 2G, 3G and 4G positions and weld stainless steel pipe in the 1G-ROTATED, 2G, 5G, and 6G positions.
