The course objective is to provide the critical components, background, and principles associated with the Incident Command System (ICS) as it relates to Emergency Medical Services (EMS) operations and introduce EMS officers to command techniques for control and management of incidents ranging from multi-vehicle rescues to multi-jurisdictional and multi-casualty events.

Earning Criteria

The methods of assessment include performance rubrics (checklists) with a minimum passing score of 70 percent.

The methods of instruction include practical exercises, lecture, discussion, and classroom exercise. The general course topics include Incident Command Systems (ICS) Review; mass casualty incidents, patient generators, and EMS-specific ICS overview; resource management; band camp; tour bus; commuter plan; rail/subway; high-rise; stadium; workplace shooting; tornado; and chemical plant.
