This course objective is to provide engineering and economic guidance to architects, engineers, and local code enforcement officials in retrofitting existing one- to four-family residential structures situated in flood-prone areas.

Earning Criteria

The methods of assessment include case studies, examinations, and presentations with a minimum passing score of 75 percent.

The methods of instruction include audio visual materials, case studies, practical exercises, learner presentations, lecture, discussion, classroom exercise, and computer-based training. The general course topics include introduction to and parameters of retrofitting; regulatory requirements; determination of hazards; general engineering practices; retrofitting measures; design load computations; and benefit-cost analysis.
