Earners of the Family Caregiver- Supporting a Person with Dementia: Guidance for the Caregiver have learnt the differences between disorientation, delirium and dementia. Progression of stages and symptoms of dementia were covered along with common responsive behaviours and how the badge earner can manage them while maintaining composure. Self-care for the caregiver will be highlighted in this workshop along with different assistive devices to help manage wandering behavior and safety.

Earning Criteria

Complete a 1 hour theory lecture.

Participate a 1 hour simulation experience in the form of an acted scenario. In simulation, the badge earner practiced providing care and decision-making skills through a real-life situational experience related to the workshop topic.
Standards
Curriculum from the Family Caregiver workshops follow the standards of the accredited HCA program at NorQuest College. Skills are pulled that we expect a Family Caregiver can practice safely. Completion of the course does not contribute to completing a HCA program in Alberta.
