Earners of the Family Caregiver- Navigating the Healthcare System learnt about the structure of the Alberta Health Care system, the caregivers role within the system, resources within the area and techniques for communicating with health-care providers to meet the needs of care recipients and caregivers. The workshop also focuses on helping caregivers identify care needs using the Care Support Needs Assessment Tool (CSNAT).

Earning Criteria

Complete a 1 hour theory lecture.

Participate a 1 hour simulation experience in the form of an acted scenario. In simulation, the badge earner practiced providing care and decision-making skills through a real-life situational experience related to the workshop topic.
Standards
Curriculum from the Family Caregiver workshops follow the standards of the accredited HCA program at NorQuest College. Skills are pulled that we expect a Family Caregiver can practice safely. Completion of the course does not contribute to completing a HCA program in Alberta.
