Caregiver Pain Management

Earners of the Pain Monitoring and Management workshop will have learnt the various types of pain, differences between chronic and acute pain, effects of pain on quality of life, and how as a caregiver the badge earner can make observations of your loved one and help identify ways to manage their pain. Pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods of management were also discussed. Myths have be dispelled and caregiver support highlighted.

Earning Criteria

Complete a 1 hour theory lecture.

Participate a 1 hour simulation experience in the form of an acted scenario. In simulation, the badge earner practiced providing care and decision-making skills through a real-life situational experience related to the workshop topic.
Standards
Curriculum from the Family Caregiver workshops follow the standards of the accredited HCA program at NorQuest College. Skills are pulled that we expect a Family Caregiver can practice safely. Completion of the course does not contribute to completing a HCA program in Alberta.
