Caregiver Palliative Care

Earners of the Palliative Care workshop will have learnt what palliative means, MAID, conscious sedation, advanced directives, and goals of care. Signs and symptoms of end of life and how best to meet a loved ones needs are understood. Caring for a palliative loved one is not an easy choice and the earner will have understood making the decision of taking on the role of a caregiver. Impact of grief will be discussed with tips on how to maintain self while caring for your loved one.

Earning Criteria

Complete a 1 hour theory lecture.

Participate a 1 hour simulation experience in the form of an acted scenario. In simulation, the badge earner practiced providing care and decision-making skills through a real-life situational experience related to the workshop topic.
Standards
Curriculum from the Family Caregiver workshops follow the standards of the accredited HCA program at NorQuest College. Skills are pulled that we expect a Family Caregiver can practice safely. Completion of the course does not contribute to completing a HCA program in Alberta.
