Earners of the Family Caregiver- Assisting with Personal and Intimate Care Workshop have learnt how to adjust to changing roles within the family when the caregiver needs to assist with personal care such as bathing, dressing and incontinence care while still maintaining the dignity of the care recipient. They have also learnt effective communication, tools to assist, understand modifications for the recipient's’ abilities and observe health status to notify health care personnel of changes.

Earning Criteria

Complete a 1 hour theory lecture.

Participate a 1.5 hour virtual reality and simulation experience. In simulation, the badge earner practiced providing care and decision-making skills through a real-life situational experience related to the workshop topic.
Standards
Curriculum from the Family Caregiver workshops follow the standards of the accredited HCA program at NorQuest College. Skills are pulled that we expect a Family Caregiver can practice safely. Completion of the course does not contribute to completing a HCA program in Alberta.
