Coaching Certification
Earners of the Coaching interscholastic sports certification have developed entry-level coaching skills for student-athletes from youth through college athletics. They excel in coaching fundamentals, planning and executing drills, developing game plans and strategizing, applying coaching psychology, and handling administrative tasks, from hiring staff, scheduling, travel arrangements, budgeting and field/court maintenance. Students will take three courses and participate in a practicum.

Successfully complete PHED 3352 Theory of Coaching Interscholastic Sports. Emphasis on coaching major team sports. Instruction includes psychology of coaching; certification of coaches; finance and budgeting; purchase, care, and repair of equipment; methods of scheduling; rules of the sport; and fundamentals of offense and defense. (Softball/baseball and soccer offered in the fall) (volleyball and basketball offered in the spring)

Successfully complete PHED 3342 Sports Officiating. Rules, principles, court and field mechanics involved in officiating team sports. (Softball/baseball and soccer offered in the fall) (volleyball and basketball offered in the spring)

Successfully complete PHED 3402 Psychological Dimensions of Physical Education and Sport. Examination of the psychological components of individual participation in physical education and sport.
