Peer Advising Skills

Issued by Pace University

Earners of this badge have developed the entry level skills to effectively provide general academic advising to their student peers without supervision including: core curriculum requirements, academic policies/procedures, utilizing advisement tools, (e.g. Degree Works and Pace Portal), and referrals to other campus resources. They are competent in skills such as interpersonal communication, customer service, problem solving, critical thinking, attention to detail, and collaboration.

Earning Criteria

Complete an online, asynchronous course on Classes that includes the following general academic advising skills and competencies: professional etiquette, academic policies and procedures, FERPA, core curriculum requirements, utilizing Degree Works and other advising tools, and providing connection or referrals to student resources on campus.
Complete 5 hours of peer advising with supervision from a professional advisor. Effectively answer general advisement questions of a minimum of three students.
