This series is designed to assist novice general and special education teachers with the design and delivery of effective lesson planning, implementation of high leverage universal instructional practices, and data-driven decision-making toward enhanced outcomes for all students, including students with disabilities.

Cite current lesson planning practices and discern which practices are consistently implemented in their work setting.

Identify the three principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and provide examples of instructional practices that align with each principle.

Integrate the principles of UDL into existing lesson planning practices.

Identify the resources and supports necessary to implement the integrated lesson planning.

Differentiate typical from universal instruction and give examples of how universal instruction could be integrated into their instructional practices.

Create evaluation rubrics to assess student learning within the context of the 3 Principles of UDL.

Describe sample fidelity measures peer teams can use to support implementation of universal instruction and integrated lesson planning.

Identify positive, questionable and poor response to instruction (academic, behavior, SEL) using data-based decision rules.

Identify specific, evidence-based instructional practices based on the specific type of response to instruction.

Explain the use of both types of decision rules in the context of their existing practices.
