West London Institute of Technology: Innovation Challenge Coach
Earners of the badge have acted as coaches to the student participants of the WLIOT Innovation Challenge, 5 day workshop. The Challenge is a 5 day workshop that provides students with an experience centred on undertaking a ‘real world’ challenge set by external organisation. The Innovation Coaches, recruited from the Brunel Doctoral Researchers Team, work directly with the students to support them through the 5 day workshop and assist the workshop tutors.

The responsibilities of the Innovation Coaches included; supervising the student teams, supporting workshop activity and teaching staff, coaching the innovation process and methods, as well as softer skills e.g. listening, questioning, encouraging reflection, helping students focus on activity goals, encouragement, motivation and time management of activity, feedback to tutors or workshop issues, and production of Innovation Theory Videos.

The Innovation Coaches supervised all workshop activities, providing feedback to students on all activities undertaken in the workshop environment with the aim being to develop the students innovation skills, the right behaviours for collaboration and to build their knowledge about innovation. No formal assessment of students was undertaken by the coaches.

Innovation Coaches earned this badge by being part of the Innovation Challenge workshop design and delivery team. They worked with WLIOT Tutors in creation of the workshop concept, planning and preparation for the 5 days, coaching the students through the 5 days to enhance the student experience and outcomes, providing feedback on student performance and to evaluate the workshop concept and their own experiences.

To support the coaches with their own personal and professional development, aligned to their doctoral studies, WLIOT tutors, the challenge provider and students also provided informal feedback on the coaches.
