The course objective is to teach the skills and techniques necessary to effectively plan, draft, and revise college essays. Students learn the foundational elements of the essay, including thesis statements, topic sentences, and paragraph development to write essays in a variety of forms, practice critical-reading strategies to revise, edit, and proofread your essays, and the importance of citation and documentation of outside sources to avoid plagiarism and academic dishonesty.

The methods of assessment include quizzes, examinations, written papers, and webinars with a minimum passing score of 70 percent.

The methods of instruction include study guide, textbook, and required webinars. The general course topics include critical thinking, reading and writing skills; the reading and writing process; revising and editing; narration and process analysis; classification and division; research and MLA citation; and arguments.
