CFD for Multiphase Flows
Issued by
Penn State College of Engineering
Multiphase flow CFD simulations are becoming critical for engineering of electronics thermal management solutions, aerospace power & propulsion systems, nuclear thermal hydraulics, & biochemical processes. Badge earners can (1) Identify and describe the theoretical underpinnings of the physics models employed in multiphase CFD codes. (2) Set up, run, and interpret the results of multiphase flow simulations. (3) Implement multiphase physics and closure models w/in CFD environments.

Earning Criteria
-
Learners actively participate in a 4-week hybrid application-oriented short course in modern multiphase CFD theory and practice designed and taught by expert faculty at Penn State: Dr. Rob Kunz and Dr. Alex Rattner.
-
Throughout the 4-week course, learners critically engage course content; identify and describe the theoretical underpinnings of the physics models employed in multiphase CFD codes; set up, run, and interpret the results of multiphase flow simulations; and implement multiphase physics and closure models w/in CFD environments.
-
Learners submit a project evaluated by expert Penn State faculty demonstrating foundational competency in CFD for multiphase flows.
