Leadership is a vital organizational function that helps to direct resources for improved efficiency and the achievement of goals. Effective leaders provide clarity of purpose, motivate others, and guide the organization to realize its mission to achieve its vision. Based on the importance of leadership and the need to develop leadership skills, the Leadership Institute (LI) was created in 2011 by the GoWest Credit Union Association (GoWest) to provide leadership education.

One does not have to have direct reports to be a leader. Supervision is a subset of the much broader spectrum of leadership. Recommended participants for the Leadership Institute include: Early Career professionals, Potential Management Candidates, Emerging leaders, Team Leads, High-potential Team Members.
