Core Practices for Improving School Climate

This micro-credential is awarded to learners who attend an online workshop series hosted by the School of Education. It responds to guidance from the State of CT requiring that every public school district implement a Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) plan and appoint a School Climate coordinator in order that plans be developed to promote positive climate and SEL. Recipients acquire a strong baseline experience for school districts to begin work on improving and sustaining climate plans.

Attend a workshop session on Applied Restorative Practices and participate in activities to examine evidence based research on restorative practices, identify and discuss strategies and methods that can be used in classrooms, examine a case study using a restorative framework, and consider applications for participants' schools.

Attend a workshop session on Trauma-Informed Pedagogy and De-escalation practices. Participate in activities to examine evidence based research on trauma-informed pedagogy, identify and discuss strategies and methods for de-escalation in school environments, apply trauma informed practices to a practical case study, and consider how de-escalation practices serve the goal of a trauma-informed pedagogy.

Attend a workshop session on Mentally Healthy Schools. In the process, examine evidence-based research on positive learning and behavioral outcomes that promote of mentally healthy schools, identify and discuss frameworks and specific methods that help cultivate mentally healthy schools, and use a case study to examine practices for mentally healthy schools.
