This micro-credential is awarded to engineering students who demonstrate exceptional skills in writing within a range of tasks, such as lab reports, memos, feasibility plans, and analyses. Learners must meet a set of particular benchmarks set by professionals as well as faculty, including language conventions, logical development, problem-solving, and synthesis of appropriate evidence.

Earning Criteria

Learners submit a writing sample of their choice from ENR 110 to an eportfolio and respond to the reflection prompt related to professional identity and how their writing sample demonstrates their professional identity.

Learners use feedback to submit a new writing sample from either an additional ENR course or a professional experience to an eportfolio. Students also complete another reflection.

Learners complete ENR 110 The World of an Engineer - This course introduces students to the study and practice of engineering, including overviews of specific disciplines. Participatory focus involves group design projects, hands-on learning, computer work, team building and engineering ethics discussions. In an inquiry-based learning framework, students are introduced to the Grand Challenges for Engineering, as defined by the National Academy of Engineering.

Assessment is completed by faculty experts using a rubric designed by faculty in Engineering, English, as well as professional engineering writers. Students receive feedback from the rubric evaluators.
