This micro-credential is awarded to learners who demonstrate advanced knowledge and skill required by physical therapists working with the oncology population including an in depth understanding of pathophysiology, medical treatment, associated sequelae, and physical therapy examinations and interventions for oncology. Learners apply intervention techniques for patients with a history of cancer, including determining appropriate and safe exercise prescription.

Earning Criteria

Complete a 3 credit course, PT 744 Therapy Skills Elective in Oncology, which includes 2-3 hours of hands on Integrated Clinical Education in an outpatient physical therapy setting with individuals with cancer.

Complete a Physical Therapy Continuing Education Program, Oncology Rehabilitation: Our Role in the Continuum of Cancer Care (2.5 Continuing Education Hours).

Complete an additional 2-3 hours Integrated Clinical Experience (ICE) in a Survivorship Clinic (hands on learning).

This micro-credential is for academic credit as well as continuing education credit.

Assessment of completion of micro-credential requirements is completed by a faculty evaluating learner completion of 1) a case-based post-test associated with the CE program, 2) a written reflection of their ICE experience and professional behavior and professional skills, and 3) the required course.
