Earners of this badge have acquired a fundamental understanding of professional behavior when on-set for live shoots or event recordings while also learning the basic and troubleshooting needs such as setting up cameras and equipment, working with cables, basic assisting, and simple camera work. Badge earners are ready to function as reliable assistants/crew members on shoots and productions and are eligible to opt into our list of on-call PAs for future Media Productions projects and shoots.

Earning Criteria

Complete Professionalism Online Training: Review the standards of professional conduct most production units expect from their crew members. Students will understand common expectations and the reasonings behind them. An assessment quiz must be passed before students can be on set.

Complete Grip Training: This hands-on training will introduce students to basic on-set equipment and tasks. On-set safety will also be reviewed. An assessment quiz must be passed before students can be on set.

Cable Identification Training: On-demand training module introduces students to the common cables currently used in video production and their uses. An assessment quiz must be passed before students can be on set.

Successfully assisted on a minimum of 3 Broadcast production shoots. On these shoots, students demonstrated their ability to handle equipment appropriately, perform basic camera operations as needed, and conduct themselves professionally, safely, and attentively on set. They gained experience with the elements of live production, comportment around clients and the general public, and crew teamwork. Successful students must receive a satisfactory evaluation report from an on-set supervisor.
