Badge earners demonstrate the ability to discuss and respond to in-depth issues related to student engagement in online courses. Issues that participants will examine include instructor presence and its role in student engagement; what reasons students have for enrolling in an online course and how those reasons affect student engagement; and how to recognize and respond to engaged and disengaged students in online courses.

Earning Criteria

Complete a five-week course that includes weekly readings in the form of narratives as well as research and case studies. Weekly activities ask participants to reflect on and problem-solve various aspects of student engagement including: instructor presence, school/life balance, and peer-to-peer collaboration.

Participate in a small-group project where participants collaborate to create an engaging group activity and experience first-hand the engagement challenges students face with group work.
