3D Printing Competency: Prusa XL

Earners of the FDM Printing Competency micro-credential have demonstrated the ability to properly operate all aspects of Makerspace’s Prusa XL printers by completing a workshop, a hands-on assessment, and passing a graded quiz. Earners of this badge can prepare 3D files for printing, load the appropriate material and print heads, troubleshoot basic extrusion issues, run calibration, and clean the build plate.

Earning Criteria

Attend an FDM printing workshop.

Complete the hands-on assessment, during which a 3D file is prepared for export in PrusaSlicer and an empty machine is loaded with filament and calibrated for printing.

Demonstrate understanding of the basic properties of all printable filaments, including PLA, PVA, TPU, PETG, and Carbon Fiber.

Identify what a filament jam is and be able to unclog print heads by following hot and cold pull procedures.

Complete the FDM Printing quiz with a score of 80% or higher.
