Earners of the Embroidery Machine Competency micro-credential have demonstrated the ability to properly operate the basic functions of the Tajima SAI embroidery machine by completing a workshop, hands-on assessment, and graded quiz. They can also set up files for export to the embroidery machine, change their top thread colors, monitor their embroidery, and troubleshoot basic thread break errors independently.

Earning Criteria

Attend the embroidery machine workshop covering software, machine operation, maintenance, and safety.

Complete the hands-on embroidery machine assessment, which results in an article of clothing being embroidered in at least four colors with no visible errors in the design.

Ability to take an Adobe Illustrator design and use the i2 plugin features to convert the file to a stitch design.

Demonstrate an understanding of the basic material properties that make embroidery possible and the safety concerns associated with materials that are not permitted.

Complete the embroidery machine quiz with a score of 80% or higher.
