This badge is awarded to recognize the English-language skills & pedagogical knowledge of adult ESOL students who have successfully passed an intensive course to prepare students to enter the the PK-12 education field. Badge earners are fully capable of communicating & teaching in English. Badge earners have also demonstrated knowledge of core concepts in PK-12 education, and have a sound pedagogical foundation to work in the education field.

Earning Criteria

Complete an intensive, 25-hour course.

Pass a rigorous, language-centered final exam that assesses relevant language skills in the context of K-12 education.

Earn a minimum course grade (incorporating homework and final test grades) of 80%.

Demonstrate understanding and engagement with Bloom's (Revised) Taxonomy, paired with an ability to describe and design scaffolding activities to aid students' instructional outcomes.

Possess deep knowledge and full familiarization with GSuite Products, and particular familiarity with Google Classroom as an LMS system. Badge earners also demonstrated both digital account management and became familiar with various digital education tools (including Classmarker, Quizlet, & EdPuzzle)

Understand an overview of the NJ educational system and curriculum standards.

Learn about methods and principles to provide effective feedback to students, and show an ability to present information in a clear and cohesive manner.

Learn industry-specific English vocabulary commonly used in the education field and identify and understand word class. Badge earners understand the concepts of hedging and directness when providing feedback to students, and can use stance adverbs and vocabulary choice to hedge feedback to students.

Use the simple present to describe habitual actions and to form imperatives. Badge earners can employ the simple present, past, & future to describe statuses or states-of-being, and understand preposition position & function. Students can use the progressive aspect to describe past, present, & future actions that are ongoing. Students can also ise subordinate clauses w/subordinators to indicate time relationships between clauses, and can use modals to indicate permission & necessity/obligation.
