Earners of the Insulation 2 badge have proven to have knowledge of insulation measures including dense-packing walls and more complex insulation measures. The class is focused on developing the skills and knowledge of current and potential Weatherization Installers. This class offers review, theory, hands-on field exercises to reinforce and extend the knowledge of building science and tools and techniques for dense-packing exterior walls and floors. This is a 16 hour class.

Earning Criteria

Measure building and wall areas and volumes to calculate insulation material quantities.

Understand the need for and the purpose of Personal Protective Equipment.

Use and understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for materials being used.

Identify typical air leakage sites and inspect structural integrity of walls.

Understand and identify the difference between thermal and air barriers.

Perform field diagnostic tests (Blower Door & Zoned Pressure Diagnostics) to determine integrity of wall to prevent blowout.

Utilize proper tools and materials to prep for and then air-seal top and bottom plates & insulate walls.

Perform weatherization tasks based upon SWS Standards.

To demonstrate the ability to work in a safe manner on a job site.

Manage site-prep and clean-up.
