The OLTC both broadens and deepens the student’s engagement with the Wilderness Education Association's WEA 6+1 Educational Components (Outdoor Living, Planning and Logistics, Risk Management, Leadership, Environmental Integration, and Education + Judgment) in preparation for serving as an outdoor leader. Students are immersed in an experiential training process through student-led field instruction, Leader-of-the-Day opportunities, trip planning, and more.

Earning Criteria

Have at least 10 days of prior backcountry experience. (Prerequisite)

Participate a backcountry field experience with a minimum of five consecutive days.

Implement the WEA 6+1 leadership model in a field setting.

Perform as a Leader of the Day (LOD)

Take part in field instruction experiences.
