Introduction to Microbiology
Earners of the Introduction to Microbiology credential have demonstrated knowledge and familiarity of key concepts required for a position in industries such as food and beverage production, chemical and biochemical, petroleum, manufacturing, and more. The curriculum provides earners with training on skills such as light microscopy, aseptic techniques, pure cultures, and serial dilutions. Competency is assessed via a combination of written examinations and hands-on demonstration of the skills.

Learners are trained using industry-standard methods and experiments to gain familiarity and competence with key techniques, instruments and equipment. The course leverages remote learning innovations including synchronous and asynchronous laboratory training with faculty and graduate assistants. Upon completion of the online modules, learners are trained and assessed on key industry competencies through facilitated, hands-on learning both at home and in a traditional laboratory setting.

Learners are assessed via a lab practical exam that evaluates the learners' competency on each skill. In order to earn the digital credential, learners must score at least 80% on each skill assessed listed above.
