Successful completion of the Emergency Medical Technology (EMT) Exam Qualification micro-credential provides the earner with the skills and knowledge to prepare them to take the New York State Bureau of Emergency Medical Services certification exam and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician's Exam. Upon passing the NYS EMT exam, EMTs can begin working on an ambulance in NYS.

Earning Criteria

Complete the 8 credit EMT course with an overall average of 80% or greater.

Successfully pass all psychomotor skill evaluations including the New York State Emergency Medical Technology Certification Psychomotor Skill Evaluation.

Complete the 2-hour NYS Mandated Reporter training for "Child Abuse and Neglect" along with submitting the certificate of course completion.

Complete the 2-hour "FEMA IS-100: Introduction to Incident Command System" along with submitting the certificate of course completion.

Complete the 3.5-hour "FEMA IS-700: "National Incident Management Systems" along with submitting the certificate of course completion.

Complete a 4-hour Hazardous Material First Responder Awareness Level along with submitting the certificate of course completion.

Complete a minimum of 10 hours observation in an emergency department, ambulance, and urgent care setting and document at least ten patient contacts.
