Direct Support Professional I

As part of the Human Services Program (major # 0604), the Direct Support Professional I (DSP I) micro-credential includes two courses. HUMS 200 (Helping Process & Crisis Intervention) will provide students with the skills and strategies necessary in effective helping from client-centered and strength-based perspectives. HUMS 125 (Mental Health & Wellness) will address the intrapersonal, social, and environmental risk factors influencing health, mental health, and wellness.

Earning Criteria

  • By completing HUMS 150 and HUMS 200 courses, students will be able to fulfill the educational requirements for completion of the National Alliance of Direct Support Professional DSP I accreditation. Students will also be completing the 15 badges through the NADSP e-Badge Academy to earn the DSP 1 credential.
  • The completion of the DSP I micro-credential serves as the pre-requisite for the completion of the DSP II micro-credential.
  • This is currently an OPWDD Grant Funded Program
