This non-credit co-curricular micro-credential equips students with essential skills for navigating urban education settings. Students will explore the historical and cultural legacies of urban communities to develop solution-based strategies. This micro-credential was developed for those who wish to better understand urban education dynamics and tools to create equitable environments. It's open to undergraduate and graduate students from the College of Professional Education.

This micro-credential is projected to start in Summer 2025. For more information, please contact Dr. Aimee Myers at amyers8@twu.edu. Students seeking teaching certification or pursuing a graduate degree related to K-12 education will receive priority admission. However, applicants outside of these areas in COPE are still encouraged to apply.

The requirements for interested COPE undergraduate students seeking teaching certification to join this micro-credential are: letter of support from a one-course instructor, completed EDUC 2003 with C or better (verified through TWUSelf Service), enrolled in a program that leads to teacher certification (verified through TWU Self Service).

The requirements for undergraduate students outside of priority area: letter of support from a academic advisor, letter of support from one instructor, completion of 32 hours of coursework (verified through Self Service), an overall GPA of 2.75, and a written justification of how the Urban Education MicroCredential will support your professional goals.

The requirements for interested COPE graduate students seeking degrees focused on K-12 education to join this micro-credential are: a letter of support from a faculty advisor, completion of 12 hours of graduate coursework (verified through Self Service), and enrollment in a graduate program within the School of Education (verified through TWU Self Service).

Earners will complete a series of assignments, including an autoethnography of place, identity, and schooling, a praxis paper, and a presentation on critical media literacy

Earners will attend three online seminars and one face-to-face workshop to gain critical knowledge on the landscape of urban education.

Earners will complete five hours of experiential learning with a pre-approved urban school or non-profit organization and provide documentation to verify completion.
