Effective Graduate Student Mentoring

A program consisting of training workshops that will be led by USM faculty “trainers,” all of whom completed the CIMER workshop. All sessions will use components of a curriculum developed by CIMER from a published workbook written by experts in mentor training. The program is designed to help faculty to be more effective mentors.

Earning Criteria

  • The program will consist of six, 1.5-hour workshops held monthly during the fall and spring semester and will conclude with a 2-hour Lunch and Learn Workshop, for a total of 11 hours.
  • Participants will develop a "Mentoring Philosophy and Plan" which will include: (1) A reflection on lessons learned in each of the seven modules of the workshop series, including a brief discussion of any behavioral or philosophical changes they intend to adopt after considering the knowledge gained during the program and (2) A model mentoring plan that applies best practices and approaches learned in the program. A score of at least 80% is required to earn the badge.
