Recipients of a STEM Outreach badge may apply skills to teaching STEM courses in K-12 schools, informal settings, outreach education, communicating science with diverse audiences, and/or in higher education which would benefit workforce competitiveness and overall dissemination of STEM research.

Earning Criteria

Five (5), 1 hour Professional Development Workshops on the following topics: Importance of STEM Outreach (1 hr.), Utilizing Effective Science Communication Strategies (1 hr.), Implementing Informal Education (1 hr.), Partnering with Diverse Communities (1 hr.), Aligning STEM Outreach to Career Goals (1 hr.) All badge activities will be housed in a centralized STEM Outreach Canvas Shell. Any required workshops and PLC meetings will be accessible virtually through STEM Outreach Badge Canvas Shell.

Five (5), 1 hour Virtual STEM Outreach Badge Professional Learning Community (PLC) Meetings (for discussion and reflection). All badge activities will be housed in a centralized STEM Outreach Canvas Shell. Any required workshops and PLC meetings will be accessible virtually through STEM Outreach Badge Canvas Shell.

Completion of a minimum of 10 hours of Outreach events (e.g. give STEMonDemand lessons, support local community events focused on STEM outreach, serving as a mentor at a scientific conference). Any required workshops and PLC meetings will be accessible virtually through STEM Outreach Badge Canvas Shell.

Students will implement hands-on experiences facilitating outreach activities in diverse educational contexts. Students will self-assess and reflect on the role STEM outreach has in society and their career development. Any required workshops and PLC meetings will be accessible virtually through STEM Outreach Badge Canvas Shell.

Students will report scope of impact through recording the frequency and/or duration of direct engagement with outreach communities. All badge activities will be housed in a centralized STEM Outreach Canvas Shell.
