An independent study is a major project to reinforce and refine GIS and data communication skills. Each student develops a project to address a specific question or problem to apply critical thinking and geospatial techniques. Projects involve the integration of GIS/remote sensing and/or data visualization concepts with geospatial and statistical methods. Students obtain data, apply analytical tools and interpret results, then produce a professional quality final product.
