Core courses provide fundamental interpreting and translation related skills to speakers of any language, covering general theory and practical skills necessary for performing entry-level professional interpretation in a variety of settings.
Introduction to translating and interpreting as a career, and for those who work with translators and interpreters. Overview of the field and skill necessary for the profession. Covers general problems involved in translating and interpreting.
Learn basic translation techniques & the process of translation. Includes a practical review of the English writing, editing and proofreading skills necessary to produce clear, polished translations. Understand the differences in propositional, expressive, presupposed, and evoked meaning. Conduct effective terminology and content research.
Introduction to equipment & electronic tools used by professional translators and interpreters throughout their workflow. Develop basic skills using, assessing and choosing appropriate hardware & software including computer-assisted translation tools.
Develop skills terminology research, dictionary usage & glossary building. Basic terminology in medicine, law computers, business & international trade are covered. Understanding meaning of Triangle Model, Object Categorization, Classification of Concepts, Generic & Partitive Hierarchical Relationships and Non-Intrinsic Relationships.
Learnt he role of the interpreter & translator in the business conference, medical & courtroom setting. Familiarization with current business practices (determining feeds and negotiating contracts). Demonstrate understanding of the Code of Ethics for Translators, the Code of Ethics for Interpreters, and the ASL Ethics and Code Conduct.
