Earners have undertaken tasks such as general servicing on a motor vehicle, constructing timber garden furniture, basic welding techniques and have created a simple engineering project

Earning Criteria

In this government funded Trades Academy Secondary School course, the learners have learnt about and undertaken hands on automotive, engineering and building tasks Students attend classes once a week for 28 weeks.

Learners have been assessed and can prepare a vehicle and/or machine for use and shutdown after use; are able to demonstrate knowledge of the selection of different types of hand tool, in the range of hacksaw blade, file, punch, hammer, spanner, wrench; can construct timber garden furniture as BCATS projects; can perform general servicing checks on a motor vehicle; can demonstrate and apply knowledge of safe welding principles and quality assurance under supervision.

People credited with this unit standard are able to check the engine readiness for use, check vehicle and/or machine readiness for use, and shutdown vehicle and/or machine after use.
People credited with this unit standard are able to demonstrate knowledge of the selection of different types of hand tools; select and use engineering hand tools to meet task requirements; and care for engineering hand tools.
People credited with this unit standard are able to prepare a cutting list; mark out, cut, and machine components; and assemble, finish, and complete work operations for timber garden furniture BCATS projects.
People credited with this unit standard are able to demonstrate knowledge of the selection of different types of hand tools; select and use engineering hand tools to meet task requirements; and care for engineering hand tools.
People credited with this unit standard are able to prepare a cutting list; mark out, cut, and machine components; and assemble, finish, and complete work operations for timber garden furniture BCATS projects.
People credited with this unit standard are able to carry out general servicing checks on a car or light commercial vehicle, change the engine oil and filter, and interchange the wheels.
