The Certificate program offered by the 2U Faculty Engagement & Development team awards Certificates of Achievement to instructors who demonstrate proficiency in online education and digital learning by attending or watching the recordings of five core seminars. Core seminars are recommended to help instructors get started with the basics for teaching online using 2U platforms, or to gain new ideas and insights after teaching for many terms.

Core 1. Teaching Online: Setting Norms and Classroom Best Practices | This 60-minute core seminar will focus on best practices for faculty who are new to digital education. Whether you've taught for 20 years or this is your first term, we will walk through all the do's and don'ts of teaching online and some fun technical tips to make your first online term as effective as possible.

Core 2. Student Engagement in the Digital Classroom | This 60-minute core enrichment seminar will focus on the process of engaging with your students in quick but impactful ways. By the end of the session, you will be able to conduct a number of simple yet meaningful strategies to keep your students engaged during your online class sessions.

Core 3. Engaging Students: Optimizing the First and Last Five Minutes of Class | This 60-minute core seminar will focus on best practices surrounding the first and last five minutes of class by leveraging both the pedagogy and the technology to create engaging live sessions. You will learn to help students transition into the classroom mindset at the start of class as well as ending the class on a high note.

Core 4. Breakout of the Box with Breakout Room Strategies | In this 60-minute core seminar, we will discuss the benefits of using breakout rooms to facilitate small group discussions, practice activities all programs can utilize, and brainstorm your content as it relates to potential student collaborations. By the end of the session, you will understand the importance of utilizing this feature to engage students and create meaningful learning experiences.

Creating Community in the Digital Classroom | This 60-minute core enrichment seminar will focus on the process of connecting with your students beyond the curriculum, in ways which promote active, engaging learning. By the end of this seminar participants will be able to identify how to create community in digital classrooms and will be equipped with the tools to do so.
