Equity & Social Justice in the Digital Learning Environment Certificate of Achievement is awarded after attending a series of six workshops for a total of nine hours in session. These workshops are developed to help instructors create more equitable spaces for students in the online environment by acknowledging, accepting, learning, and acting to change systematic forms of oppression.

Workshop 1 | The Four I's of Inclusive Teaching: Intent, Impact, Identity, and Intersectionality - In order to build an inclusive learning environment, we must consider how our own identity can impact the experiences we create for students. We like to think those around us always understand our intent but how often do we consider the impact of our actions? Students and faculty all bring various identities to the learning environment which form individual educational experiences and perspectives.

Workshop 2 | A Lesson for Reducing Bias: Cultural Competency in Instruction - At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will understand biases, identify their own biases in an online learning environment, and utilize the Cultural Competency Continuum as a framework to reduce biases in instruction.

Workshop 3 | Courageous Conversations: Creating Safe but Brave Digital Spaces - At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will understand how they may be upholding forms of systemic oppression in the classroom through silence, and learn how to cultivate and sustain brave spaces in the classroom

Workshop 4 | Intervening When It Matters Most: Bystander Intervention in the Digital Classroom - At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will have a working knowledge of the bystander effect, identify areas of opportunity for intervention, and apply appropriate types of intervention comfortably.

Workshop 5 | Tools for Equity: Inside and Outside the Digital Classroom - At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will learn how to promote equity and inclusion in their live sessions by using various tools found in the digital learning platform, in Zoom, and external websites.

Workshop 6 | Time to Act: Wrapping Up and Moving Forward - At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will review and reflect on what they have learned, evaluate how their emotional muscle has been strengthened throughout the series, and commit to act on their learning.
