Lean Six Sigma Black Belt
Issued by
UC San Diego Extended Studies
The earner demonstrated the skills needed to design a successful Lean Six Sigma Black Belt project based on an actual workplace process projected to save at least $100k in hard dollar savings upon implementation. The earner shows competency in understanding the ‘DMAIC’ method of process improvement and leveraging lean methodologies of eliminating waste. Earner completed all examinations and projects assigned during the course under a certified Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt Master Instructor.

Earning Criteria
-
Earner passed comprehensive exams covering each phase in the DMAIC process.
-
Define Phase: Earner created a Project Charter, developed a Primary Metric, SIPOC, Roles Worksheet and Stakeholder Analysis. They also established a VSM with OEE metrics, accompanied by an 8 Wastes Gemba walk and 5S analysis.
-
Measure Phase: Earner completed Detailed Process Maps, assessed the reliability of Measurement Systems, created a Data Collection Plan, and completed a baseline Process Capability Analysis. Earner is trained in various Lean toolsets, such as SMED and Total Productive Maintenance.
-
Analyze Phase: Earner utilized various graphical analysis tools, such as Pareto Charts and Boxplots. Earner developed a Hypothesis Testing Plan and conducted various hypothesis tests.
-
Improve Phase: Earner is trained to conduct a Full Factorial 2k DOE for process characterization and/or Fractional Factorial 2k DOE for screening; developed solutions and created a Solution Selection Matrix, which was then Piloted and Implemented.
-
Control Phase: Earner utilized SPC charts to develop Process Monitoring. Earner created a detailed Control Plan with monitoring and response elements and built a project storyboard.
Standards
Earner can submit to PMI 45 training hours to be counted towards contact hours required to sit for PMI Credentials or towards Professional Development Units (PDUs) required to maintain PMI Credentials.
