Teachers in this program of linguistics and education training learn to teach English to nonnative speakers at all stages of language acquisition and learn to communicate effectively with a diverse cultures and nationalities. They understand bilingual and English language development and can evaluate others’ English abilities and teach grammar and writing.

Completed six core courses: Assessment, Evaluation and Placement; Culture and Cultural Diversity; First and Second Language Development; Fundamentals of English Grammar for ESL Teachers; Language Structure; and Methodology of Bilingual and English Language Development; as well as three electives. Earned at least 27 units. Met all requirements for a UCSC Silicon Valley Certificate in TESOL.

Students may transfer TESOL Certificate units toward master's programs at University of San Francisco and Notre Dame de Namur University.
