GIS StoryMap

Unity Environmental University
The StoryMap is an ESRI ArcGIS Web Application that students build as a professional step into the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) world. Students build the application by inserting images, maps, and writing descriptive text and captions to both tell a story about their professional experiences and to analyze the scientific methods of a GIS-based research project. StoryMaps help students build basic GIS skills, such as basic cartography, editing maps online, and describing geospatial data.

Earning Criteria
-
GeoCV StoryMap: Students will follow a tutorial and then create their own map-based resume or curriculum vitae. This is a project that students may continue to build upon throughout their future GIS career. Students are encouraged to share their GeoCV with prospective employers to highlight their mapping and data visualization skills.
-
Final Project StoryMap: Students analyze a GIS-based research paper and summarize the research in StoryMap format. Students incorporate text, maps, photos, graphs, and videos to help tell the environmental geospatial story of the peer-reviewed study. Each week students build upon this StoryMap, which culminates in the final week when they share the web link with the GIS community at large.
