Libraries are vital sources of social infrastructure and librarians have served as second responders during times of disaster or social unrest. Participants learned how to provide necessary and valuable services to their communities during times of crisis. Earners of this microcredential developed an emergency response and reopening plan, demonstrating their ability to provide continuity of operations when interruptions take place.

Earners attended a 6 hour (1 day) training on the need for librarians as second responders following disaster with topics including crisis management and continuation of operations. Earners completed a pre and post assessment to judge their knowledge and created a sample emergency plan relevant to their current institution implementing new techniques learned in the training.
