This academy focuses on preparing faculty for online teaching with the application of the backwards design theory framework to a new or existing course. Focus on a specific principle of course alignment; course design, course framework, content creation, and student interaction.

Earning Criteria

Participants are required to complete and submit a course alignment planning sheet. The Course Planning Sheet will include the course learning outcomes, along with which taxonomy (Bloom's or Fink's) and which taxonomy level will be used to reach the learning outcome. Participants will identify the readings/resources, what teaching methods used in class, as well as the intended learning activities and finally the assignments needed to reach each of the course learning outcomes.

Participants will create one learning module with a variety of content and interactions. Participants will be guided by a learning module checklist of items recommended to include in their online course composition.

Participants will create a student course orientation module. Participants will be guided by a course orientation module checklist of items recommended to include in their online course composition.

Participants will be asked to record a course tour video of their online course. This video walks users through where and how to find important components within their online course design. Some items to locate are: the course include a welcome message as well as looking at overall layout and design of their online course. Easy to find course items along with user-friendly course navigation.
