This micro-credential, offered by the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, provides PhD trainees in the Biomedical Sciences an introduction to research ethics through a social justice lens. Participants gain knowledge of the historical impact of research and biases that lead to health inequities and scientific mistrust. Successful completion of three non-credit learning modules over 6 weeks- Module I: Past- Human cost of scientific progress; Module II: Present - Lingering biases and their impact on policies and funding allocation; Module III: Culture of academia and how it has evolved. Additional requirements include readings on assigned topics, participation in group discussions, and completion of a final presentation.
