Know the role of a correctional officer in identifying a person in crisis (PIC).

Understand the unique challenges that the prison system presents for individuals with mental health disorders.

Recognize atypical behavior within a correctional environment and assess risk.

Identify common mental disorders and their relationship to crime and criminal justice.

Demonstrate an understanding of Crisis Intervention Team training.

Develop positive methods to cope with the potential mental health challenges facing the correctional officer.

Complete the Mental Health in Criminal Justice course (D2L).
